Located in the vicinity of the Taj Mahal , the magnificent 16th century Agra Red Fort represents one of finest architectural masterpieces of Mughal India. Built in red sandstone by the Mughal Emperor Akbar during 1565-1571 AD, the massive Agra Fort is enclosed by 69 feet high and 2.5 km long double walls, housing once an imperial city of the Mughal rulers. Situated on the banks of River Yamuna, the crescent shaped Agra Fort contains many beautiful mosques and palaces built by Akbar and his successors Jehangir and Shah Jehan.
